RADIO 4 FEATURES NEW BRITISH TALENT MARA CARLYLE ON 15 SEPTEMBER
(08/08/2005): The British Consulate-General, the British Council
and RTHK Radio 4 are bringing an exciting new British performer
to Hong Kong for two performances next month. Mara Carlyle's ethereal
voice and contemporary instrumentals have led to rave reviews
in the British music press for her debut album The
Lovely. Her live broadcast performance on Thursday
15 September will be the highlight of RTHK Radio 4's British music
month as part of its 2005 Music Beyond Borders series. Ms Caryle
will also perform at the Fringe Club on Friday 16 September. More...

LONDON
TO HOST OLYMPIC GAMES IN 2012 (07/07/05): London has won its bid
to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012. The International
Olympic Committee in Singapore made the announcement on 6 July.
London
won a two-way fight with Paris by 54 votes to 50 at the IOC meeting
in Singapore, after the elimination of Moscow, New York and Madrid
from the original shortlist of five cities. Speaking at the G8
Summit in Gleneagles, the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, described
the decision as 'tremendous and momentous' for London.'
